Biography

Born in Spokane, Washington, Thomas Morphis received his BFA in painting at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon, and his MFA in painting at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Soon after, he began a 25-year career as Professor of Art at a liberal arts college in the Napa Valley, California. He taught painting, drawing, design and other courses, was director of the college art gallery, and continued to produce and exhibit his own artwork. To date he has shown in 23 solo and roughly 60 group exhibitions.

No longer teaching, Morphis now works full-time in his San Francisco studio. The photo above is from a solo show at the Napa Valley Museum in 2015.
